Élan is
used chiefly in English to denote
ardour,
impetuousness, vivacity--in short, spirit.
Some years ago, I envisioned this spirited space
as the future home of the English
Language Arts Network. In the intervening years, however, the development of various social software applications, coupled with shifts in the way in which I think about literacy and literary education, have led me to reconceptualize this space as a weblog. LitBlog is a forum my graduate and undergraduate students have been inhabiting since March 2006. Topics discussed on LitBlog range from digital literacy to teaching literature. Please pay us a visit.
And here, in fond memory of a friend and master teacher, are two poems. If anyone exhibited ardour, impetuousness, and vivacity in teaching literature to secondary students, it was Bill.
