I am an Associate Professor in the Department
of Language and Literacy Education
at the University of British Columbia. My current research interests
are digital literacy, secondary literary education, and digital humanities. My research work is related to these areas and is discussed here. I completed an interdisciplinary doctorate in the
Departments of English and Secondary Education at the University of
Alberta (2001) under the tutelage of David Miall (English and Film Studies) and Margaret Mackey (School of Library and Information Studies).
I teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of British Columbia. I have also taught introductory English literature and composition courses and have guest lectured in numerous sixteenth- and seventeenth-century English literature classes for the Department of English, University of Alberta (1996-1999). In the early to mid-1990's I was a high school teacher in the Canadian school system specializing in senior-level English.
Outside of my work in the field of education, I spend my time parenting my two sons and participating in a variety of outdoor sports.
